Child, Girl, Woman Lakes Area Association

The Child, Girl, Woman Lakes Area Association has been dedicated to sustaining the health and beauty of its local lakes since 1976. To enhance community engagement and volunteer participation, I redesigned their outdated website, creating a modern, user-friendly platform. By transitioning the site to Squarespace and leveraging Figma for design, I ensured it could be easily updated by non-technical members, empowering them to further the Association’s mission with confidence and independence.

Non-negotiables for CGWLAA

Stakeholders had a very specific vision in mind. For this website, we must…

  • Utilize images provided by local photographers

  • Build the website on the easy-to-edit platform, Squarespace, for future updates

Branding

Reflecting The Natural Landscape

Transitioning from a harsh black and green palette to a serene deep dark blue and white. This shift mirrors the tranquil nature of a lake itself.

Navy Blue (hex code #223549) represents the lake itself

White (hex code #FFFFFA) was chosen as the background to allow for high contrast with the texts and images.

Typography

Choosing typography I wanted to balance elegance and readability. Teimer, a classic serif, adds sophistication to headers, while Liberation Sans, a clean sans-serif, ensures body text is modern and legible.

Photography

Local photographers provided pictures to be used on the website.

Our Lakes

Key Design Takeaways:

Clear Call-to-action for Volunteer Opportunities: The ability to sign-up to volunteer is prominently displayed throughout the website.

Harmonious Color Palette: Blue and white branding reflects the natural landscape of the lakes.
